Answers to some common questions
How often should I get my carpets cleaned?
Every household is different based on traffic, children, pets, and cleaning habits. Generally, carpets should be cleaned every 6-18 months. We send out a reminder postcard once a year to our customers.
Are your chemicals safe for my pets and children?
Yes, we use a safe enzyme-based pre-treatment that is thoroughly rinsed out during the cleaning process. Some spotters may contain solvents or harsher chemicals, but they are also rinsed well to minimize residue. Please inform us if you prefer not to use these spotters.
What is filter soil and can you remove it?
Filter soil, a buildup of carbon deposits from airflow in the home, typically forms along the edges of the carpet or under closed doors. It becomes more noticeable over several years, especially on light-colored carpets. While standard cleaning doesn’t usually remove filter soil, we offer treatments that work well at an additional cost. To slow down filter soil formation, change air filters frequently and use a vacuum crevice tool along the walls.
Why did my stains come back?
Stains that wick back to the surface after cleaning are from larger spills or pet accidents that have penetrated the pad or subfloor. We avoid putting down enough moisture to reach the pad or subfloor to prevent further issues. We can flush out stains and speed dry them, but this service costs extra. Wick back is most common with Berber or poly carpets because they are less absorbent.
Can you get my grout clean?
If we can’t, no one can! Tile & grout cleaning is our specialty. We have the specialized equipment to get the job done. Our method uses more heat, pressure, and water flow than most carpet cleaning machines can produce, ensuring the best results. We offer free cleaning demonstrations in the greater Fredericksburg area.
Should I seal the grout after it’s cleaned?
It is recommended to seal the grout if it needs it. Some sealers can last 10-15 years or more. If your grout has been sealed before, it may not need resealing. However, if it absorbs moisture, it should be sealed. Unsealed grout is porous and can absorb spills and dirty mop water, causing permanent staining. While sealers don’t keep grout clean, they make cleaning easier and help prevent permanent staining.
Do you move furniture?
We can move some furniture upon request for a minimal fee. We do not move large beds, electronics, china cabinets, or very large or fragile pieces. Moved furniture will be cleaned under and replaced with protective tabs under the legs. Any pieces you want moved should be cleared off before our arrival.
Do I need to do anything before you arrive?
Carpets should be thoroughly vacuumed before professional cleaning. You can do this yourself or we can do it for an additional cost of $10 per area. Clear the carpeted areas of small knick-knacks and personal items, placing them in areas not being cleaned or on beds, sofas, etc. We also need our truck as close to the door as possible, so please clear the driveway.
Can you remove the stains from my carpet?
Several factors affect stain removal, including how long the stain has been there, if it has been worked on before, the type of carpet, and the cause of the stain. When we arrive, we have a variety of spotters for different situations. Knowing the cause of the stain is key to using the correct spotter. Using the wrong chemistry can worsen the stain or set it permanently. While we try everything possible, some stains may not respond. Carpet patching is an option for stubborn stains.
How long do I have to stay off the tile floor after it’s cleaned?
Our system’s powerful vacuum recovers almost all moisture, so the tile will dry in about the same amount of time as if you had mopped it—about 15 minutes. Grout, being more porous, may take longer to dry but the floor can still be walked on.
Do you clean all types of tile & grout?
We primarily clean ceramic and porcelain floors with sanded floor grout in good structural shape. We closely inspect the floor for any cracks or missing grout before beginning. We avoid cleaning the white 4×4 builders-grade tile with unsanded grout, as it cannot withstand the pressure and vacuum. We also refrain from cleaning polished floors like marble or polished travertine.
